Do you think you're smart? Do you think you have an above average intellect? I think I'm clever, and I know some stuff but I know my intellect does not even compare to the real brains out there. Some of my smarts come in the form of knowledge of certain facts in this world.
For instance: The sun periodically has whats called a coronal mass ejection otherwise known as a solar flare, some of these flares get shot off towards our earth but thanks to our magnetic field, the energy from this flare gets pushed away resulting in some spectacular northern lights from time to time. The Earth is having an issue with its magnetic field due to the fact that it's going to flip the north and south poles and its going to slowly decline for hundreds of thousands of years before it flips.
So what is the big deal you may ask, If the sun's solar flare hit our earth directly with a strong flare it would be the same as our earth being hit with a massive EMP (Electro magnetic pulse), which in turn would fuse all of our electronics together throwing us all into the dark ages.
Now....How smart are you? Picture this: You have been thrown back in to the dark ages and have nothing but what you remembered from the technological era. What could you build?
I know I would be screwed, I don't even know how to build a pencil, or paper for that matter.
Lets forget all together on how we would build a cell phone, which would be useless anyway with no cell towers or power. Lets start simple, could you build an axe if you had to? I think I could, a stick with a sharp rock tied to it.
Maybe I could build some sort of lean-to shanty to keep warm, trying to build a fire might be difficult because I need a certain type of rock that sparks a lot but I have no idea where to find such a thing. There is wood friction so at least I have options. A hammer I could make but the nails? Jeez the nails would be tough. It boils down to, food , shelter, water, to survive not thrive.
How long do you think it would take us, starting from scratch, to get where we are now? None of us know how to make anything, not without the tools we take for granted everyday, My story about the earth and the sun are completely useless.
