I was coming home the other day(I live on an acreage out of town) And as I'm driving the speed limit which was 100 km , I get stuck behind someone doing 80 km,actually I was one in a group that was stuck behind the slow person. It was a single lane highway, the roads were not bad, and it was slightly snowing. I'm going very slow now it seems to me, and I'm getting agitated by the slow driver up front. There is no time to pass the long line of cars in front of me as there are cars coming at a steady count from the other direction. So I wait.
Suddenly this truck pulls out a few cars up and they are clearly upset (you can tell by the way they pull out) and there is not enough time for him to make it past the slow driver. At this point I slow right down because I think we are all going to be part of a head on collision and I'm scared for my life. The angry driver who is out in the road pulls back in narrowly missing the oncoming traffic but cutting off the vehicle behind him now.
This happens a few more times, each time all of us drivers narrowly escaping with our lives, amazingly, other drivers are now pulling the same stunt putting others in danger and trying to pass when there isn't enough time. It was hellishly crazy scary and I was looking for a side road to turn down so I could take a gravel road home.
You have read this story, what do think is the main problem here? Is it the people taking huge risks trying to pass when there is not enough time?
No, it is the person who has decided that they need to drive 80kms on a 100km road. They probably didn't even see the people behind them. If this one person was not on the road all this craziness could have been avoided. They also could have pulled over onto the shoulder and let people pass safely.
These slow drivers are dangerous! If there is no reason for driving that slow other than you want to have a nice leisurely drive in the country, then these types of people need to be fined and the problems it causes needs to be explained to them. This is, in my opinion, just as or perhaps more dangerous as excessive speeding. By driving slow you have angered all those behind you and just created a group of angry individuals all driving manually operated missiles. If they do get by you unscathed they will continue to drive angrily in that condition for at least ten minutes. Don't believe me? I'm at home writing this out the next day and I'm still mad!
Slower is not Safer.
