Using our debit cards instead of cash seems common place these days. Most machines we use have a tap feature so you don't even have to enter your pin if your purchase is under 100 dollars. Some places don't have this feature and I have to wonder if it's a way of getting a free tip from you.
I was at little Caesars yesterday and bought 2 crazy breads, 7 bucks or so, the worker hands me the machine and it has no tap feature, I put my card in and before I can put my pass-code in, it asks me what type of tip I'd prefer, cash or percentage and there is not an option for no tip. I put cash, hit 0 dollars and pay. I left the store a little bit perturbed.
I'm getting really tired of the mandatory tip, isn't it called a tip because someone did a really good job and you got excellent service so you want to give a little extra bonus to the worker because they did a stellar job and you want to show your appreciation? I actually like to give someone a little extra because of their hard work.
What I don't like is giving someone a tip when they don't deserve it. You go somewhere, get terrible service, you sit down and wait about 20 mins before you even see a waitress, they take your drink order and you don't see them again for another 20 mins with the wrong drinks, they take your food order and 40 minutes later you get your food but its cold and not what you ordered but you eat it anyway because you are starving, another 20 mins after your done eating and you have to physically get up and get someone to bring you a bill and then, there is a tip amount they wish you to pay right on the bill! They have the nerve to be upset at you if you refuse to pay.
This is a scam, and I hate being scammed, Having a tip on a debit machine for a 7 dollar purchase is a scam, and paying a person with no work ethic is a scam.
Forcing anyone to pay above the asking price of anything is a scam.
These people or companies in the service industry that want tips get a wage, they are paid for the work they do. You can try to justify why someone should get a tip. Yes they worked hard, they slaved for hours on a large group of people, they should get a tip. Maybe. But why doesn't the gas jockey who fills your car or propane up get a tip?
I have busted my a$$ for 14 hours on one persons yard removing a tree and cleaning up the mess so that their yard is immaculate. I don't get a tip. "Oh but you you get paid more." You might argue. I chose to do this as work, If it doesn't pay to do it then I can choose to do something that will. So can you, so can anyone.
Telling me that some people rely on tips to survive is like telling me that in order for you to live you are expecting pennies from heaven. Expect a short life then. Living off of a maybe or could be, is not a smart way to live.
Just A Tip....From me to you:
