I know a lot of us look forward to a dinner where we get to have the whole meal deal, turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, turnips, carrots, stuffing, that weird jello cake with the vegetables in it, and any type of salad associated with that type of supper.
Along with that type of dinner is, of course, desserts. Cakes, pies, bars, cookies, ice cream, and a whole list of other things I can't think of right now. Whenever these desserts get passed around I always reject them and everyone always asks me why.
I find that the supper itself is dessert for me, the turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy, to be specific. I will load my plate up at least three separate times with just those items, some turkey on the side, then mashed potatoes smothered in butter, with everything topped off and covered in gravy.
That meal to me is better than any dessert I have ever had, and if it was offered after I had my main meal such as a pasta dish, I would probably take that as an after dinner dessert over any sweet dessert out there.
My wife of course loves her desserts and will actually save room and not eat so much dinner so that she can have the dessert afterwards. I find that most women love their sweets, and will save room in their bellies if they know it's an option after dinner.
I used to love sweets when I was younger and would do the same thing as my wife does now, but something changed in me over the years and I find the suppers over the holidays the main dessert, I can have candy anytime, but the types of festive meals that come around rarely are the real treat in my opinion and the best type of dessert I can think of.
