When I go out to buy a decoration for my place, I always look for something that has a function or an alternative use. I hate having something that has no use other than it's simply pleasant to look at or admire.
Women have this decoration stuff down, and they have the unique ability to make even the ugliest spaces look pleasing to the eye. In my world it has to have some other use than sitting on a shelf or hanging on the wall forever.
Statues and figurines are one of those things that are completely useless in my opinion, and I have been to people's houses and seen a whole wall dedicated to my little pony, star trek, dragons, dolphins, and those little trolls with the florescent hair. What use is that to a person? I guess pride maybe? Proud that over the years you have collected things that are rare and now collect dust for you.
I have a friend who collects Lego sets, I can kind of understand that because of the time it takes him to figure out how to build it in the first place, but after that it sits on a shelf never to be used again. If you were a kid you would play with it for a while then probably break it down to make something else. It does have multiple uses.
I bought a bed frame that has drawers and compartments all over the place, it has more than one use, I sleep on it, it holds my bed up, and I can put whatever I want in the drawers and compartments, it has great functionality. When I buy jackets I want lots of extra pockets so I can organize my change from my keys, my wallet from my cigarettes and lighter, and also from the receipts a gather throughout the day.
If I want to hang a picture in my house, I look for a frame that opens up and I can put my car keys in it, or notes to myself to remember something. I buy magnets for my fridge so it has extra functionality, benches that have drawers, coffee tables with lift tops and drawers just for all my stuff, and to keep my place tidy.
I love having multiple use, decorative furnishings, everywhere. It seems redundant to have things with only one use, and that's my opinion.
