You should see the clothes in my closet. I have quite a few shirts, shorts, jeans, socks and underwear, but the issue I have is that I have a few niche items that I prefer to wear and everything gets left in there untouched for the rest of the year. Yet for some reason I can't seem to part with anything.
If one of my shirts gets too old and ratty, I don't throw it away, oh no, I keep it as a "work" shirt, which then goes to that corresponding shelf. I have a huge pile of "work " shirts I never wear because just like my good clothes I have a preference as to which ones I'll wear when I need to go out and get dirty.
I'm trying to come to grips on why I won't throw anything out, if I never or barely wear the other clothes and there is no sentimental attachment to any of it, then why do I keep all this junk?
I think part of the reason is that I know if I start having empty closet space, my wife will over take it with her "junk" clothes that she never wears. The other reason is that when I go shopping, there is nothing out there that I want to buy, sure I could go to Walmart and get the five t shirt special but I don't want to, I still like to have a bit of style and I don't want to fall into that rut of buying cheap stuff just because it's easier than picking out things individually.
There are not a lot of places that sell mens clothes for 40 plus men out there, not many anyway. When you do find one, the prices are exorbitant and I'm a guy who likes deals but will spend a little more than is necessary if I really like the product. But if the shirt is too expensive, guess what happens if I buy it? It goes into that part of my closet where I don't wear the clothes because it's now going to be used for special occasions only.
So I'm conflicted, I have to be choosy but not too choosy, I can spend a little money but not too much because I'll be afraid to wear it afterwards, and then I have to find something I like and has a bit of style to it. What a pain in the ass.
I think I'll just keep the clothes in my closet and never throw anything away unless it's radiating nuclear energy, but even then, it'll be a great work shirt.
