Daylight Savings

It's that time of year again, where we have to turn our clocks back an hour for what? To save an hour? To lose an hour? To mess up our internal clocks? To screw with our scheduling? To make our kids crankier?  Whatever the reason, it has always been a stupid idea in my opinion but it's still something we all have to participate in even if we don't want to.

Why do we have this moronic event twice a year?  The actual scientific reason is because it was designed for us to enjoy more sunlight and save money by not having to turn on our lights in the evening because of the extra light our sun provides.

There is only one problem, this is all fine and dandy in the summer but here in Canada we have this thing called winter, anyone else heard of this?  It doesn't matter if you turn the clocks back an hour or forward in the winter, you will go to work in the morning in the dark and you will come home in the dark and that will equal no savings period.

The United States started using daylight savings around 1918, and somewhere along the line Canada decided to adopt the idea.  In 1918 there was probably a much better reason to have daylight savings because your light at that time still needed a fuel of some sort, oil lamps and such devices, light bulbs that came around were not efficient and used way more power.

We have  l.e.d. bulbs that save on power, actually most devices we have are electric and fuel efficient. The technologies of the past were incredibly inefficient so maybe they did save on some power in the past.

I think we need to kibosh this plan of action that screws everything up and messes with our bodies.  It's time to move past this event and put it behind us and leave it there forever.  There is no reason to keep it around other than it has been how we operate and the people have a sentimental connection to it.
