CHAPTER 2
Fae
Dragons can sleep in any position, on their back, curled in
a ball, half on half off a ledge, anything really. This is obviously not the
case for humans, because when she awoke in her sitting position with her head
hanging between her legs she found it hurt quite a lot to move, "By the
darkness" she groaned in her head, as she tried to move. "What
madness is this?" Her short little neck had stiffened to a point of almost
non-moving and her back was in much of the same condition as she started to
rise." more joys of being a human" she thought with disgust. She
moved stiffly and sorely to the small pool stretching along the way trying to
get her kinks out, and when she finally got there it was quite the effort to
crouch down to drink the water but she did it grudgingly. She took a few sips
and spat out the water she hadn't swallowed yet, the water tasted like blood
and mud and she couldn't see very well because she had some sort of foreign
substance over her eyes. She rubbed at them and felt something crumble and fall
away allowing her to see through a haze at first and then a bit clearer.
"I'm not sure I can do this today." she thought,
"I'm already sick of this body and I haven't even made it out of the cave
yet." she looked down at the pool and had to move her fiery red hair from her
face again so she could see, the pool was completely ruined, her wash the night
before had contaminated the pool to the point of no return. She stood up and
turned toward the cave entrance." I guess the only option is forward
now" she guessed. The cave entrance was still blocked by the huge rocks
and she had to climb over them again to get out as well as readjust her eyes to
the sunlight. She looked at the forest down in the valley and sighed to herself
while taking one last look around to see if perhaps there was something that
may be of use, she was about to leave when she noticed the small sharp rock
fragment that was caught on her fleshy mound on the cliff that she had broken off,
so she walked over and picked it up thinking she may be able to use it as she
did her talons when she was still a dragon.
As she walked down
the hillside she flipped the rock shard in the air over and over, still getting
used to her new motor skills, she suddenly stumbled a bit on some uneven ground
while the rock shard was still in the air and it came down point first on her
leg just above the knee, it bounced off and hit the ground. Curious, she looked
at it, then at her leg, then at the rock shard. She knew that being a dragon
she had never cut herself, or been cut unless of course she was attacked with
enchanted weaponry, but that was mainly because as a dragon her body was
covered in scales, right down to the tips of her claws.
This body she was in
had no scales, it just had this pale hide. She remembered eating her share of
humans, they weren't the tastiest thing to eat but they went down easy enough,
not too chewy, and they broke apart nicely, quite salty, with a bit of crunch,
So she thought it very odd that the rock shard hadn't cut her or for that
matter why she hadn't died of the fall or had been crushed by the boulder?
She wondered if maybe she was a certain type of species of human or maybe she
was special somehow.
She took the rock in both hands careful not to crush it
between them." Were they strong like me too?" she wondered as she
placed the tip of the rock on her thigh. She closed both of her eyes and turned
her head to the side as she gave a slight push on the shard.....nothing happened,
she opened one of her eyes and looked down. She could barely feel it there,
indenting her thigh, she pushed harder and heard the shard crack a bit so she
let the pressure off and moved the shard to one of her fleshy mounds on her
chest, and came at it with approximately the same pressure she had on her
thigh. She screamed in agony when it hit, and fell to the ground rolling on to
her belly and while holding her fleshy mound with both hands she rocked back
and forth with her teeth clenched, rubbing herself until the pain subsided.
