Prisons

I recently watched a documentary on prisons, and I have to say why do we even need this sort of punishment? For small crimes its like living at a hotel where you can't leave for a while. There's a TV a weight room, three square meals a day, outdoor activities and programs for schooling with courses. For larger crimes its basically the same thing with a few more rules and not as nice conditions. This is what our tax dollars is going towards? I don't want a murderer to have a nice stay even if it is for life, instead I want to see criminals working at something miserable, say a rock quarry with pickaxes and wheelbarrows with metal wheels. The majority of these criminals often come out worse than before they went in, they learn different tricks from other criminals they befriend, or they get beat up everyday and the get released hating everybody and everything and soon end up right back in prison or die.

Why not stick them in a special division in the army where they have to serve their sentence and then have the option to stay if they want? That way they would learn some discipline, work ethic and how to work as a team. These would be the soldiers that take the front line, walk the minefields and get sent into battle first leaving troops that haven't committed crimes to come in after as backup. The army has ways of breaking people down and then building them back up. Tax payers still pay but at least this way the money would be better spent and the criminal would benefit society and they also might be better people once their sentence is over.

That's my opinion for the day
